Photograph of ole' barneys, lighthouse keeper at the Barnegat Lighthouse state park, New Jersey. BARNEGAT LIGHT, NJ — The historic Barnegat Lighthouse has a new keeper. A new 8-foot bronze statue earned recognition on Wednesday's National Lighthouse Day.

The statue sits to the west of the lighthouse tower and gives recognition to the services keepers provide.

The new statue honors “the dedication of lighthouse keepers to protecting vessels from dangerous coastlines and hazardous shoals, and providing safe entries to harbors around the globe,” according to an event invitation from the Friends of Barnegat Lighthouse.
